Tara Steele – Aquatic Ecologist

Tara has over 8 years’ experience working as an environmental professional and a further 5 years’ experience working in wetland restoration as a horticulturalist. She grew up on the coast, spending much of her life meandering through rivers and floating in oceans. This connection to water and the environment drives Tara’s passion for good quality science and practical solutions to environmental monitoring challenges.

Whether it’s the wild rivers of the Kimberley or alpine streams of the Blue Mountains, Tara is highly experienced in undertaking field programs in remote locations. She has training in remote first aid and is a qualified 4WD operator, skilled in advanced vehicle recovery techniques. Tara is an AUSRIVAS accredited macroinvertebrate sampler and taxonomist that has been involved in both surface water and groundwater ecosystem surveys extensively in New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory. She is also a senior electrofishing operator, trained and certified as part of the Smith-Root International Accreditation Program.

Tara has been at the forefront of monitoring programs for PFAS, leading biota contamination sampling programs in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT.
